President C. Santa Maria called the meeting to order at 4:05 pm.
D. Mandarino made a motion to approve the minutes from November—sec by A. Avellino—passed.
Pending court case coming up-LMSD asked for case to be expedited-arguments will be heard in Harrisburg. PA School Board Association is joining with PSEA to speak on behalf of LMSD. We may hear in late January or February regarding the ruling.
Nomination for Secretary of Education –she has promoted Charter Schools in Detroit. After infiltrating this venture, the charter Schools have been performing below the Public Schools. These Charter Schools remain unregulated because the state government continues to back her. This is a big hit to public education.
Upper Merion outsourcing:
UM School Board recently voted to out-source the Transportation Department Contracted was awarded to First Student. FS purchased the entire fleet & promised to hire UM drivers –who still remain in the Teamsters union. Healthcare plan will carry high deductible./Affordable Care plan. –No pension,. New Hires will be paid at $16. Ph. No guarantee letter, they will be year to year employees – with no guarantee they will be hired back in Sept.
