Officer’s Reports:
President’s Report: C. SantaMaria gave the following report:
- C. SantaMaria distributed tote bags for members of Executive Council and thanked them for all the work they do for the Association.
- ESP pension postcard distribution – original cards for Support Professionals do not have pre-written message – Support Professionals will be getting these cards in a few days.
- Pension Legislation is coming!! We must let our state legislators know we need to keep our current pension system. Sign up for PSEA’s text-alert messaging – text your PSEA member number (on your membership cards) to 717-514-2880 to get text alerts on impeding legislative action on the pension issue. Sometimes legislative issues are voted upon at odd hours (weekends, nights) and PSEA members need to have notice on impending votes in order to contact your local legislators. Being on this system will alert you to these actions.
- ISC Survey of Guidance Services – survey is a “data point” – this is an internal recommendation and this will be one of many data points used in their survey.
- Applecore items were discussed – the Applecore is distributed monthly by LMEA officers.
VP Support: V. Fedeli gave the following report:
- Pat Tozer was re-elected to the PSERS pension board. Thanks to all of the Support Professionals who took the time to complete and mail their ballot back to PSERS. This is a great victory for us as we prepare for the many challenges that lie ahead regarding our pension system. It’s amazing what we can do when we do it TOGETHER! Have a happy and safe holiday season and a very happy New Year!

Treasurer: D. Mandarino made a motion to approve the Treasurer’s report for November. - Approved.

Constitution: NR – but they will be meeting in early 2010.

CNC: A. Flicker reported they are readying their proposal – next meeting is 12/17.
FAC: NR
Health & Safety: A. Flicker reminded that if you get hurt on the job – you must to go right to the nurse in your building – she will give you a form to determine whether you must contact Dennis Witt or Kelly Toole. If you’re not in a school building go to your immediate supervisor for the correct paperwork. If you’re on a field trip you should call the nurse. C. SantaMaria added – if you’re on an overnight field trip you should have an administrator on the trip. If this is not feasible you should have contact numbers for administrators in your building.
Legislation: G. Rosazza reminded to contact him for any current legislative info.
Minority Affairs: M. Mixon thanked the officers for their support at the Minority Affairs fundraiser at the recent Pittsburgh House of Delegates.
PACE: G. Rosazza noted that the payroll deduction option has passed for this year. About 35% of members contributed. So far, about $23,000 has been contributed. C. SantaMaria made a motion to have the 2 winning reps (1 elem 1 sec) from the highest contributing schools win Wawa gas cards. After some discussion and a rejected friendly amendment C. SantaMaria withdrew his motion. G. Rosazza asked for some ideas at the next meeting on how to raise contributions.
PR&R: P. Dawson noted some grievances are being deleted. If any issues/unsatisfactories let P. Dawson or V. Fedeli know.
Public Relations: NR
Social: A. Avellino noted they are still working on selecting a venue for the banquet.
Special Services: NR

Membership: Please keep D. Grumbine updated with any changes.
CARE: NP but M. Rios submitted the following report: S. Barbado presented math and reading interventions that the district is doing at various grade levels if students did not attain proficiency on PSSAs. District is using performance tracker to specifically pinpoint skill areas needing further support.
C. McGinley discussed our efforts to align our curriculum and instructional practices. W. Marseille reported preliminary data suggests improvement in performance of our at-risk students. He attributes this to cross-curricular collaboration among teachers who share same students. J. Milani, Community Service Liaison noted there will be a half day event on Jan 15 at HHS to record books for the blind, make book markers, and learn about M.L. King. Literacy day for younger students- looking for volunteers. Contact her at serve@lmsd.org. A.L.Trainor of the C.A.L.M. Society learned how to navigate the school system to get help for child without being non-combative. She shared her journey with committee.
Education Foundation: NR
403(b): Their committee is trying to have the district bring in the company “403b ASP”.
Environmental: J. Mudd gave a brief overview of the LMSD Comprehensive Environmental Plan. LMEA would look over this proposal/get feedback. Any EPER positions need to use formula in contract. District is looking to earn “LEED” status in both new high schools. Their next meeting is in late January. C. SantaMaria asked reps to read this proposal and be ready to recommend at next Exec Council meeting.

Welsh Valley: Prof: when is it appropriate to involve LMEA in meetings with parents? If asked by admin to attend meeting with parent – arrange to speak with principal before the meeting to gauge whether you will have support or otherwise in this meeting. If during the meeting the feeling of disciplinary nature is rising you may ask for representation./ ESP: Concern about gossip heard between members – all members are advised not to spread rumors and to keep private matters private.
