LMEA EXECUTIVE COUNCIL MEETING MINUTES

November 16, 2009

President C. SantaMaria called the meeting to order at 4:08 PM.
M. Gutches made a motion to accept the October Exec. Council minutes - V. Fedeli noted a correction should be made in Vic’s report in the October minutes.  The word “not” should be omitted from the following line “the elected position is (not) a non-certified seat on the pension board.” – Motion passed.
The annual audit was reviewed by Bob Teti – our finances are in good order.
Officer’s Reports:
President’s Report:  C. SantaMaria gave the following report:

  • C. SantaMaria thanked members for quick action on the pension postcard distribution and collection.
  • Education Week Gifts are being distributed to members this week.
  • ISC Survey of Guidance services – this is separate study from B. Barner’s internal K-12 study of Guidance services.  The ISC survey uses an internet survey with no login/registration, etc.  There was also a student survey posted for a short time on the website – this was taken down quickly but the parent ISC survey remained on the site until 11/13.  Dr. McGinley said this survey would be one of many data points used in evaluating our services.  It is not to single out individual counselors or individual schools.  Counselors’ limits of service are not uniformly established and this survey will help set some standard limits.
  • Lost keys and other district property – new ID badges/electronic keys cost $30 to replace – it is in the professional and support handbooks.  Laptops, if taken off site, must be secured.  Laptops stolen for the second time have been paid for by the employee.
  • Keep accurate records of your sick leave – check periodically on Kronos.
  • Applecore items were discussed.  The Applecore is distributed monthly to LMEA members.

VP Support: V. Fedeli gave the following report:

  • Handbooks – There were 3 separate handbooks for Support Professionals prior to this school year in the areas of Buildings & Grounds, Transportation, and the third was a general handbook for the majority of the Support classifications.  The district has now blended all 3 handbooks into one and has made it available online for future reference.  You will no longer receive a hard copy of the handbook.  However each year hard copies of the handbook will be issued to your building reps and a hard copy can also be found in the main office and lounge for you to reference if needed.
  • PACE – We are nearing the end of our PACE drive.  Vic thanks all of our Support Professionals who have made their annual PACE contributions this year.  The economy has made it more difficult for finding extra dollars but we must stop waiting for others to make a difference.  No contribution is too small.  Your contribution to PACE will go a long way for fighting issues that would negatively affect our pensions.  The facts are politics affect our jobs so please consider making a PACE contribution.  INVEST in yourself – you are worth it!
