President C. SantaMaria called the meeting to order at 4:06 PM.
J. Cook made a motion to accept the June Executive Council minutes - sec by P. Dawson. – Passed.
Officers, chairs, and new reps were introduced.
Officer’s Reports:
President’s Report: C. SantaMaria gave the following report:
- Meeting dates, times, and parking for the office was discussed.
- Building rep responsibilities were discussed.
- Each building/unit should have an LMEA bulletin board in some common member area. If you don’t have a board the LMEA will provide one.
- Unit/Building meetings will be held by January. The dates are listed in the Applecore.
- Will planning at discounted PSEA rates will be held one evening per month at the Mideastern Region PSEA office in Montgomeryville. Dates are listed on flyers that should be posted on LMEA bulletin boards. Call 1.866.437.0665 (attorney Martin Herring) to schedule an appointment or for more information.
- ISDO/GSDO for moving classrooms – one day will be given for moving and setting up classrooms in the new high schools.
- Chaperones on field trips – district is trying to define the role of a chaperone – if an IA agrees to chaperone they are on the same clock as if they are in school unless the IA is providing specialized service. Also, the LMEA strongly cautions members about conducting overnight field trips. Chaperones should get phone numbers of administrators and be prepared for potential situations.
- Applecore items were discussed – the Applecore is distributed monthly to LMEA members. C. SantaMaria thanked those who contributed to Chetta Collins-Wood, an ESP member who lost her home in a fire. Contributions at the Gen Membership Meeting totaled about $2400.
VP Support: V. Fedeli gave the following report:
- We are always looking for members who would like to be building reps. Currents reps are encouraged to look for potential successors and are invited to bring a potential rep to an executive council meeting.
- PACE – PACE dollars are used to help find political candidates who support public education. Lobbying dollars helped us get a 50% raise in our medical supplement payment when we retire. Please consider giving $10. That would come to only $2 per pay over 5 pays. Our dues dollars CANNOT be used. Contribution forms will be coming soon.
- Our next general membership meeting will be Wednesday October 14. If you plan to be a delegate for the PSEA House of Delegates this is a ‘must’ meeting to attend. Elected delegates will be responsible to attend both PSEA Houses of Delegates (December and May), the Mideastern Region Division Workshop in April, and the ESP House of Delegates. If elected all of these meetings will occupy about 4 weekends of the year. Elected delegates’ presence is required to ensure our members are properly represented.
- Rules to remember – Work first then grieve. Read and know your contract. Know who your building reps are. Remember it’s your Weingarten right to have a rep present at all meetings. Not all meetings are disciplinary and require a rep but if a meeting starts ok but then becomes disciplinary simply ask to stop the meeting until a rep can be present. If the administrator or supervisor continues the meeting without your rep then do not offer any new info simply repeat that you want a rep present.
- Vic wished to all to have a great year and stay safe.
Reps should post V. Fedeli’s report on their unit bulletin board.
