Leave Because of Family Illness

  1. Employees may be absent from work with full pay based upon their regularly scheduled workday, to attend to the illness of a member of their immediate family. Such absences shall be deducted from the employee's accumulated sick leave.
  2. Employees must provide, in writing, an explanation of the circumstances of the relative's illness and why it was necessary for the employee to attend to the relative.
  3. Professional Staff - The Board shall provide an unpaid leave of absence for up to ninety (90) working days to any employee who must care for an ill family member without any loss of seniority privileges or salary step placement.
  4. Support Staff - The Board shall provide an unpaid leave of absence of:
    1. One-half (1/2) year; or
    2. One semester to any employee who must care for an ill family member without any loss of seniority privileges or salary step placement.
