LMEA EXECUTIVE COUNCIL MEETING MINUTES

February 13 , 2006

President D. Pendino called the meeting to order at 4:00PM.

Motion made to approve the January 2006 Executive Council minutes - Approved.

Officer’s Reports:

President’s Report: D. Pendino gave the following report:

• Last month’s Gerda Klein presentation was noted. Her visit was a highlight for the staff and students of the district.
• The 2006-7 and 2007-8 School Calendars were reviewed.
• PR-Negotiation Workshop – The CAPS workgroup will be sponsoring a PR/Negotiation Workshop on Saturday April 1 st at the region office in Montgomeryville. This half-day workshop will feature sessions on the vital skills needed prior to and during the negotiation process. It is open to all locals in the Mideastern region. Anyone interested in attending should contact D. Pendino.
• Applecore items were discussed.
• There will be a General Membership Meeting of the LMEA on Wednesday March 15 th at 4:00PM in the LMEA office on Parsons Avenue.
• Building reps should check their membership lists and report any changes/errors to D. Grumbine.

VP Support: V. Fedeli gave the following report:

• Sick days: Are you aware that the amount of sick days you receive each school year are prorated? Sick days are earned throughout the school year. The number of days you can earn depends on your support classification. If your employment is severed or you retire from the District during the year you would only earn a portion of the entitled allotment of sick days for that school year. Any unused portion of sick days for that school year will be added to your accumulated balance of days.
• Retiring?: Make sure you schedule an appointment to do an exit interview with Human Resources. Confirm the number of sick days and vacation days you have earned or accrued concur with the District. With the new incentives in severance pay a 1-day discrepancy could result in the loss of thousands of dollars. Know what you’re entitled to. A simple meeting could save you from a nasty surprise after you retire.

Committee Reports:

Constitution: P. Dawson reported that PSEA Mideastern Region reviewed our Constitution and By-Laws and made several minor suggestions. The LMEA Constitution committee met in February 2006 and discussed these suggestions and drafted some proposed changes. These changes will be voted on at the March 2006 LMEA General Membership meeting.

Minority Affairs: This year’s Minority Affairs conference is scheduled for March 17-19 in Harrisburg.

PACE: C. SantaMaria reported on current contributions – BCMS currently has the most contributors, highest percentage of contributors, and highest contribution total. Members may still contribute. Send forms and checks to C. SantaMaria at Harriton. The combined member contributions for this school year has surpassed $10,000.

PR&R: P. Dawson gave brief update of current grievances– let P. Dawson or V. Fedeli know of any unsatisfactory evaluations.

CARE: M. Rios reported they have two initiatives to work on over the next two school years. One is pre-school education – the District recognizes that not all students entering our schools go to a private preschool and that many of them receive daycare at a private home setting. Our plan is to reach out to the community and give them information on how to best prepare their children for elementary school. The other initiative is to develop an academic roadmap through the LMSD. People in the District don’t know what course options are needed if they are interested in attending college.
