Penn Wynne: Clarification on teachers responsibility on dispersing meds – concern about liability with dispersing meds on field trips. Strong board policy exists that only nurses dispense meds. Teachers should not dispense meds – if a student is self-medicating then who is responsible for giving the med to the student? – This will be investigated but the Good Samaritan law protects you in the event of a life threatening situation. It seems teachers are being asked to store and make available the meds for dispensing on field trips. The board policy on this was revised in 2002. Updated policies should be in school libraries. Also, concern that the new medical insurance plan info meeting was planned after the ratification of the contract. – Info was presented at the April 19 and April 20 meetings.
