EXECUTIVE COUNCIL MEETING, May 10, 2004
President D. Pendino called the meeting to order at 4:06 pm.
V. Fedeli made a motion to approve the April Executive Council minutes.
Second by D. Williams. – approved.
Officer’s Reports:
President’s Report: D. Pendino gave the following
report:
1. Building elections should have been conducted. Building reps should email
results to Elaine Brophy – new reps should come to the June Executive
Council meeting.
2. LMEA Elections will be held on Tuesday May 25th. Election procedures
were discussed. Building reps will run the elections in their building/unit.
Reps should check lists before the election to address any errors in names.
3. Applecore items were discussed.
4. The next unit meeting will be Wednesday May 26th at Cynwyd at 3:30.
VP Support: V. Fedeli gave a reminder to all 195-Day Secretaries,
AV Techs, and A372 personnel – if you have not taken your compensation
day from last year’s grievance award you must call Debbie Swindell
or Moira Egan at 610-645-1999 to schedule the day once you and your supervisor
have agreed on the day. You cannot use AESOP to schedule your compensation
day. Time is running out to do this.
VP Professional: C. Santa Maria gave his report with his
other committee reports later in the meeting.
1st Vice President: NR
Secretary Support: NR
Secretary Professional: M. Stettner reminded about the
MER Annual Golf Tournament. Information was
sent to reps. The date of the event is Monday June 28th at Middletown Country
Club in Langhorne, PA beginning at 8:30 AM. For more information contact
M. Stettner at LMHS.
Treasurer: D. Mandarino made a motion to approve Treasurer’s
report for April. – Approved.
Committee Reports:
Constitution: NR
Elections: E. Brophy distributed the list of candidates
running/positions open for the LMEA elections. If anyone is still interested
in becoming a candidate for any open position they should contact her in
writing at Merion.
IPD: NP
CNC: NP – Chairs are at CAPS meeting – if anyone
has ideas for negotiations they should contact B. Young.
FAC: NR
Health & Safety: A. Flicker reported they are continuing
to work with problems at WVMS. Their next meeting is scheduled for Thursday
May 13th.
Legislation: NP – but M. Stettner reported in the recent Pennsylvania
Primary PSEA-PACE candidates won 133 of 137
legislative races. All 16 Senate candidates won and the 8 NEA-PAC candidates
won. Again, please be sure to contact your legislators regarding the “referendum”
issue as well as the “No Child Left Behind” legislation.
PACE: C. SantaMaria reported that PACE contributions are done for the school
year. We doubled our contributors over last year and we collected over $10,000.
A full final report will follow in June.
PR&R: P. Dawson and V. Fedeli gave a brief report on current grievances.
Also P. Dawson reminded that the deadline for setting up a flex plan account
is June 21. Contact B. Pollack or A. Flicker for more information on the
flex-plan account. Representatives from the insurance carriers (AETNA and
IBC) will be available to meet with you on May 27th from 3:00 – 5:30
PM in the Board and Conference Room in the Administration Building.
Public Relations: NP
Social: L. McDevitt distributed banquet reservation forms to reps. Reps
should make these available in their building.
Special Services: A. Flicker reported the BJs Warehouse information is out.
Sunshine: NR
Membership: NR
Care Committee: M. Rios reported on the summer programs available for students.
LMHS will have a “summer academy” for academic support for interested
students.
Minority Affairs: NR
Blue Ribbon: NR
Job Descriptions: NR
Career Paths: NR
Special Ed Task Force: NR
Labor Management: C. SantaMaria reported they will meet next on June 1st.
At last meeting the usage numbers of our healthcare benefits was discussed.
We are still gathering information – looking for a simpler drug plan.
Community Advisory: C. SantaMaria reported that a public meeting will be
held Tuesday May 11th at Harriton. Board will vote on the proposed plan
later this month. Committee is not addressing redistricting – that
will be addressed by the Board.
Building Reports:
Belmont Hills: Concern regarding rights of teachers when
working with violence-prone students – condition is part of the job.
Cynwyd: NR
Gladwyne: NR
Merion: NR
Penn Valley: Concern about job postings on the internet –
do present employees have option to apply before it’s posted –
no. If contract teacher takes a long-term sub job will they will lose their
contract status? – Yes.
Penn Wynne: Concern about proposed change of custodial staffing needs –
proposal is still in drafting stage. Contact V. Fedeli if more concerns
on this issue.
Bala Cynwyd: NP
Welsh Valley: NR
Harriton: NR
Lower Merion: NR
B&G: Kevin Allen is out until August - V. Fedeli was
also thanked for his assistance in recent matters.
Transportation LM: What if someone is elected to an LMEA
position and they then leave the district? – President will appoint
a replacement. Also, is the “1250 hours” concern being addressed?
– Yes.
Transportation Harriton: NR
