EXECUTIVE COUNCIL MEETING, APRIL 3rd, 2003President D. Pendino called the meeting to order at 4:20 pm. Motion to accept March Executive Council Minutes motion approved. Officers Reports: Presidents Report: D. Pendino made the following report: 1. D. Pendino made a motion to put the proposed budget up for election by the membership. Sec. by V. Fedeli. Motion passed. 2. Building rep elections should be done between now and the May Executive Council meeting. Dom thanked the current building reps for all the work they do. If current building reps are not running they should find other candidates who are interested in running. 3. LMEA Retirement Tribute Guidelines were suggested. The guidelines are to help conduct a festive, streamlined event and each building/department is encouraged to also plan an end-of-year event to properly pay tribute to retirees on a more extensive and personal level. The LMEA Spring banquet is scheduled for Wednesday June 4th. 4. If you know of any LMEA retirements this year please contact D. Mandarino at LMHS by May 15th. Dom emphasized that retirees health benefits continue through August even if they retire in June. 5. Dom reminded that all employees need to wear their ID badges. 6. Send postcards to support nurses to the LMEA office by April 23. Postcards are in the building rep packets. 7. Renowned educational speaker Alfie Kohn will give a presentation on standardized tests and ESEA on Tuesday May 27 at 7:30 pm in the LMHS Auditorium. The LMEA in conjunction with the PSEAs Mid East Region, CAPS, and TOPS will host this important and enlightening event. 8. Open enrollment for benefits This year the open enrollment period will be May 19 to June 6. Contact B. Pollack in Human Resources for information or intent to change regarding health insurance, dental insurance, opt out, and/or the flex plan 125. D. Grumbine asked that the building reps check their member lists. VP Support: R. Carson gave the following report: 1. PSEA is conducting a phone survey on regarding support staff issues please answer it if you are called. 2. ESEA for support We do not receive Title 1 money so ESEA does not affect them but they are recommended to keep track of their course work/hours on mylearningplan.com and make hard copies. VP Professional: NR 1st Vice President: NR Secretary Support: NR Secretary Professional: NR Treasurer: D. Mandarino made motion to approve treasurers report. Approved. We are changing from Merrill Lynch to avoid their service charge. Committee Reports: Constitution: P. Dawson reported that the by-laws will be amended as the proposed changes were approved at the March General Membership meeting. Also, the first annual LMEA/LMSD Run/Walk for the LM Scholarship Fund will be held Sunday morning May 18 volunteers are needed to help coordinate this event. Contact P. Dawson at LMHS for more information or to volunteer. Elections: E. Brophy reported the LMEA elections will be held Tuesday May 20 and she discussed the election procedures. Mandarino asked for retiree names by May 15th. Banquet will be held at Drexelbrook a change from previous years. Special Services: NR Sunshine: D. Williams reported she is getting a large response from her request for names of ill employees throughout the district. Carson was thanked for her responses/assistance with recent issues. Concern about early dismissal bus runs will be investigated.
