Applecore June 2005Opening Day General Membership Meeting The LMEA mission statement includes promoting sound educational programs in the LMSD and protecting and advancing the interests and welfare of Association members. At the September 2004 meeting, the climate and ways that the LMEA influences educational programs was described. At the Special General Membership meetings held this spring, the contractual provisions that advanced your personal welfare such as money, benefits, and time were discussed. Please plan to stay for the Opening Day General Membership Meeting this August to learn about the contractual provisions that advance your rights, working conditions, and job security. The provisions include the support and professional evaluation plans, just cause, the Loudermill and Weingarten due process rights, disciplinary letters in the Confidential Personnel File, closing due to emergency situations, renewal of coach’s contracts, and leaving early/arriving late memorandum. You do not want to miss this meeting. Mideastern PSEA Region Golf Classic – June 27, 2005 This year will be the sixth year of the MER Golf Classic. In prior years, thousands of dollars was raised for designated charities. This year’s proceeds are being raised for the Public Education Builds Communities Fund. In order to make this event as successful as possible, the MER would like to have as many participants as possible. The more the merrier. Please see your building rep for entry forms. IDEA Reauthorization Attached is a PSEA Advisory that describes the reauthorization of the original PL 94-142 passed in 1975; the federal law that entitles students with disabilities to a Free and Appropriate Public Education (FAPE). Pennsylvania’s NCLB Bridge Certification Process Attached is a PSEA Advisory that describes eligibility and the process for obtaining a bridge certificate.
