General Membership Meeting

There will be a General Membership meeting at 4:00PM on Wednesday, October 13, in the LMEA office at Belmont Hills. Voting for delegates to the PSEA House of Delegates will be on the agenda. Please plan to attend.

Mideast Region Retirement Workshop

For the past several years, the Mideast Region PSEA has offered successful workshops for members. This year, the MER is offering the Retirement Workshop/Dinner on Wednesday, December 8, 2004 at Williamson Restaurant in Willow Grove. If interested, see you building rep for more information.

Act 48

As you are aware, in November 1999, Act 48, relating to continuing education for teachers, was passed. You may not be aware, however, that the 2004-2—5 School Year is also Year 5 since passing the Act. This means that all teachers who were certified when the Act was passed MUST have completed requirements of Act 48 by June 30, 2005 or their certificates will be made “inactive” by PDE.

Teachers and other professionals can access their status by going to www.pde.state.pa.us and following the directions under the Act 48 Reporting System.

Board Presentation

On September 20, Dom Pendino addressed the Board of School Directors regarding the uncomfortable and often oppressive conditions at the schools due to lack of air conditioning. Dom received hundreds of email describing the conditions in the school. He was unable to use them all in his speech but was able to make an impressive display showing the stack to the Board. The address is attached. The response from Board President Larwrence Rosenwald was that this Board was did not make the decision 9 years ago not to air condition the schools and that the Board would look further into the matter. Mr. Rosenwald thanked the LMEA for its concern for the students.

LMEA Unit / Officers Meetings
Throughout the year, unit meetings will be held prior to officers meetings at all buildings. November’s meeting will be held Wednesday, November 10 at 3:35 at PennWynne. Meetings for other buildings will be announced monthly in the AppleCore and posted in your building. Unit meetings give you the chance to make suggestions and voice concerns with your LMEA officers.

Executive Council meetings are held the second Monday of the month in the LMEA office at 4:00PM except November 15.

Officers Meetings are held the Wednesday before Executive Council meetings. Locations and times will be announced.
